Is the R3 the only Canon camera with panning assist?

ExpoGuy

I'm trying to find out if the R3 is the only Canon camera with panning assist. I can't find this feature with any other Canon camera. Keep in mind that panning assist is not the same as panning mode. On some message forums people get those confused. Panning assist uses advanced technology.

I was hoping the R5 II had panning assist, but I don't see it.

Yes only the EOS R3 has panning assist, and it is not included even on the EOS R1 or EOS R5 Mark II.

I have seen this before and it does not answer my question. It shows which lenses work with panning mode and panning assist. It does NOT show which cameras have panning assist.

  • You may be correct an panning assist only exists on EOS R3.

I may have seemed a bit rude when I replied to you. Sorry if I did. I appreciate your help.

I use panning assist with my R3 for propeller aircraft in flight. I shoot at slow shutter speeds to capture prop blur, which adds realism to the photo. I find that panning assist helps me get more "keepers" and it's a feature I really like. But it seems that in the Canon community panning assist doesn't get much attention.

Although not quite as detailed as the R3, the cameras listed in John's post have a dumbed down version of "Panning assist" and is referred to as "Panning mode". You can't directly control the SS, but you can tell the camera (AI) how much blur you want, which in turn automatically sets SS depending on the amount of "Effect" you choose. For my R6 II, it's in the "SCN" mode. Probably not something you would want, but it is there albeit not as sophisticated 🙂

That's good to know, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the information. I guess panning assist wasn't a feature that photographers needed or wanted, so Canon discontinued it. That's a bummer, because I find it helpful.
