EOS R5 Mark II - issue with external microphone (suddenly)

Hi!  I use a Rode Videomicro plugged into the external mic jack on the R5 Mk ii.  I noticed last week that there is a hissing/buzzing in the background on my videos when I use it!  This was not the case a few months back.  I checked the internal mic, all good.  I tested the Rode ext. mic on my PC and no issues.  I even swapped cables for the Rode...no good.  I updated the R5 (Mk ii) to firmware 1.03 which is the latest I think.

Do I have a bad jack connection on my camera?  Am I missing something in settings?  I notice that when I select the Ext. mic, if I click on "Audio Status" it seems to be showing that BOTH the internal and Ext. microphones are recording.  Is that correct.  Please help!

Geoff

Hi gmelinite2,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues in the audio from your EOS R5 Mark II. The EOS R5 Mark II is able to record using both the external micorphone you have plugged in and the internal built in microphone at the same time. You can set it to only use your external microphone.

To do that have the camera in either P, Tv, Av, or M movie mode and press the Menu button. Go to the second page under the red camera tab and select Audio Format. On the next page select AAC/16bit/2CH and that will set the camera to only use the 2 CH audio coming from one microphone. With your external microphone it will switch to only using your external microphone.

The other thing to double check with an issue like this is to make sure the microphone cable is fully plugged into both the microphone and the camera. If the mic jack is unplugged even a little bit it can cause interference in you audio and that can sound like hissing and buzzing.
