I'm looking to get into a full frame. THE EOS R with the 24-105 lens kit looks to be an excellent choice. I just read the Canon is fazing out the the EOS R with service good until 2029. Is this true? Is this a good investment?

Thanks lots of great info here including going to BestBuy. I've come across a R5 for sale and thought that would be a good full frame solution. Do you have an opinion on the R5?

Kcendrow,
Help us understand. Your budget just went from $1200 - $1300 up to about $3399.... even used you are at double the price for an R5. Please do your research. Establish a budget and stick with it.
What is the budget? Really. We've jumped from the R to an RP deal (your mistake), then to the R7 and R8. Now your asking about the R5. Let stay focused. (Literally) 😄.

While prices are coming down, be aware that when purching higher-end cameras, you'd need to invest in higher-end memory cards. One of the slots in the EOS R5 uses CFexpress which have a higher cost than UHS-II SD cards. Thus, even though you may be right at budget for the R5 itself, don't forget the extra cost for required accessories.

Greetings,
There is always going to be another deal. Another camera, lens or accessory. You can procrastinate yourself right out of buying a camera. Where you buy can be as important as what you buy. I recommend a reputable dealer, an authorized Canon reseller. Buying from another source or party can be risky. Suddenly, that good deal isn't so good. Be mindful of this. Photography is not an inexpensive hobby. Like many things, you get what you pay for.

I hear ya. I've asked for the serial number to double check, it's starting to look risky.

Do visit Canon's Where to Buy page. On there you can then download the current Canon Authorized Dealer PDF. If the company you're purchasing from isn't on that list, don't purchase.
Important: While amazon.com is listed on there, you have additionally take extra care when purchasing. The "Sold By" information needs to be an authorized Canon reseller. Many times, the seller won't be.

Please avoid non authorized resellers and sellers offering "kits" or "Everything you need" to start shooting. These are going to be the profiteers peddling grey market or garage refurbished gear.
