How to get better picture quality with the r5 100-500

JosephSteinbock

Looking to get better picture quality.  This is after processing and it doesn't look good when zooming in.  I see other peoples pictures that have a lot better quality more zoomed in with the same lens.  I am zoomed in at 500 mm and cropped after the fact.

You will have to fix that link.

Hello, Joseph!

Your image is not shared and most will need an account to "sigh in" to view it. Also, be sure you u/l a Raw file with EXIF data.

Are you "zooming in" during the shot or cropping after the fact?

On the original when zoomed in, it does becaome somewhat mushy, but there is little noise.  Seeing the EXIF, at least the shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc. may help with a diagnosis.  It may be slight camera movement.

The processed photo seems to be oversharped. Almost plastic. The raw file seems to be normal, but something like 3 EV under exposed. Instead of 1/8000 sec you could have used 1/2000 sec or 1/1000 sec.

Agreed, the raw file seems to be pretty decent.

The distance from the subject is fairly steep and it is a significant crop on the processed image. Given the distance from the subject there may also be environmental issues. Was it hot or windy when you took the picture?

I want to look at the picture now since permissions were changed. 😉

I assure you however that the 100-500 is capable of taking razor sharp photos

Greetings,

His camera is capable of much better.  Peter's suggestions are accurate.  I don't see a reason to shoot at 1/8000 and 3200 ISO at 11:30 in the morning.
