Have to restart M50 camera to every few hours to use EOS Webcam Utility

Hi everyone,

I have been using the EOS webcam utility for my M50 mirrorless camera and it works great (Intel silicon MBP 2019 on MacOS Ventura). For as long as I have had it, if the camera is ON and has been idle for a while, when I try to use the camera in Teams or other software, instead of my video I get this error screen that says "EOS WEBCAM UTILITY" with a cord and a red slash through it. Then, if I restart my camera, then it works again. Anyone else with this same problem?

Having to turn off and on the camera several times a day is a pain in the butt. I suspect the camera is going into some sort of idle mode where it isn't sending data through the USB. Is there a way to keep the camera on indefinitely?

Is the camera on when this happens if so your image sensor maybe getting to hot. Then the camera maybe shutting down on overheat protection.

Thanks for the reply. The camera is in "on" mode but it is not captured video. That is why a simple restart of the camera allows it to work again. If it was temperature, I would guess restarting the camera wouldn't help?

Is the screen on while this happens. If so the image sensor is also on too. Which could cause the camera to overheat and shut down. Or is the camera in "sleep" mode since it has been sitting idle.

The camera is typically in sleep mode when this happens. If the camera is on and the screen is on like you said, then it typically doesn't happen.

The camera maybe cutting off communication with EOS Utility while in sleep mode.

Yes, I believe that is what is happening. Any way to stop that?
