EOS RP / R100 — Is there a way to programmatically clear UI Lock from Windows?

Hi all,

We’re using EOS RP (firmware 1.6.0) and EOS R100 (firmware 1.1.0) on Windows PCs. Occasionally the cameras enter a UI lock / BUSY state that requires a manual restart to recover.

On Linux, tools like gphoto2/libgphoto2 can sometimes reset this state, but we’re on Windows.

We’re wondering:

  1. Is there a Windows-compatible way to clear the UI lock programmatically?

  2. Can EOS Utility, CCAPI, or any other official Canon tool be scripted to unlock the camera without physically restarting it?

Any advice, workarounds, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi viziochron,

Through Canon we do not make any software that would unlock the UI on the camera while it is connected to a computer. Some cameras will limit the functionality you can use on the camera itself while it is connected to the EOS Utility on a computer. The EOS RP and the EOS R100 are both cameras that have those limits. With both of those cameras while they are connected to you computer we would recommend using the Remote Shooting tools in the EOS Utility to change settings and take photos.

Greetings,
