Flash extension cord

I have a canon T6s and a Sigma EF-530 DG ST flash.  The flash works fine when mounted on the camera.  I had an old fleas extension cord and I tried it with this setup with limited to no success.  I thought that maybe it was old and got damaged over time, so I purchased another one.  It came today and I tried it, same results. This happens in either TTL or manual settings.  I even took an ohm meter and check continuity from pin to pin, all is well.  I double checked the shoe on the camera and well as the contacts on the flash unit and all appears in great condition.  The one thing I noticed on both extension cords are the words 'single TTL use only".  I've tried to research if there is any other type of TTL, but I haven't had any luck finding anything about that subject.  Do I have the wrong extension cords?  Or do I have two bad extension cords?

I have never seen "single ttl use" printed on a genuine Canon extension lead so I guess your leads are from a third party. I would imagine they mean you shouldn't use two leads together in series to achieve a greater distance, this would be because there is a diode inside the lead and using two together could cause signal loss that would prevent them from working.

The genuine canon lead is the OC-E3 or the older OC-E2, either of these will work. Incidentally Canon use a system called E-TTL so if your flashgun has the option to switch between TTL and E-TTL make sure you select the right one.

I have no magic answer as to why your flashgun isn't working and can only suggest you buy or borrow a genuine Canon lead.

Yes you do and you have the wrong flash!  Off brand gear flashes even cables are a guess at how Canon works. Sometimes they get close and sometimes they don't.  Stick with Canon brand and you will be fine.

I went to the local camera shop here in town.  They had a new Canon extension and all is well now.  I really expected Best Buy to sell something that works, I guess I know better now.

The key word here is "Canon".  Make sure all your gear is Canon brand for Canon brand cameras and all will be golden.
