End of the Line for M Series, Finally?

Canon Japan formally discontinues the last EOS-M cameras, saying goodbye to EF-M: Digital Photograph...

If so, is Canon finally starting to reduce its legacy platforms? They are taking their lead from an article from Canon Rumors: Canon EOS-M has been quietly discontinued (canonrumors.com)  In does seem that the M-series has disappeared from the USA catalogue and my local NZ catalogue listing.

cheers, TREVOR

@PPorro

Good for you, hope you manage to collect them all
Since my last post I’ve added a few duplicates (M50, M2 & M5) also grabbed a few more 22mm and 18-55.

The M system is still my favourite

hence the duplicates I can use and leave  the others safely in the cabinet packed with giant silica sachets. I also added the samyang 21 & 50 lenses. Boy’o’boy!! Incredible glass.

its laughable that canon are pushing the crop R bodies yet still don’t offer fast primes for the aps-c line (or fast zooms). So you end up attaching FF glass !!!

unbelievably short sighted move!

👍🏻🤣👍🏻

I have the EF adapter but I don't use it. I just got it, in case. I'm happy with the M cameras as they are. For others reading this, the original has no viewfinder and no way to connect one. It's an add on for the M-6 and works just fine. Of course, if someone want to use a hot shoe flash? LOL

I find the different models, with different features to be amusing and fun. I want an M-5 just because of that. With a 22mm, it's probably what I would have wanted when I bought the first M, when they were released. Any version of the M-50 would be a suitable fit also.

Right now I'm just waiting for the prices to adjust, down. I'd predict that most people don't want to buy lenses and accessories for camera mounts that are no longer made.

The M5 is unique in that it has EVF and rear tilt screen as opposed to articulated or fixed. The ex-comp dial is also appreciated.
Here in the UK prices are holding steady and are certainly slightly higher than they were a few years back. It seems many now want the smaller body and lens combo.
I really wish canon had kept the M line going. It is a superb system. I have little time for poseurs swinging the R5’s and obligatory white L… most are just sheep following the herd. I also still enjoy the 6D/40stm  combination also the SL1/24stm too

i really have absolutely no need nor desire to embrace the R system. If I were to buy more modern kit it would probably be Fuji or possibly Nikon. But there’s nothing I’m missing with the kit I already own.

You should definitely try for the M5 PPorro, it’s great

Best of luck 👍🏻

FYI.  The R Series R100 is basically the M6 Mark II with an RF mount.

whattt???

how did you make that conclusion 🤣

the M6ii is 32mp, tilt/touch rear screen with no EVF

the R100 is 24mp, fixed rear non-compactive screen with a EVF.

Not quite sure where the similarities lie, besides being made by canon.

Wrong Mark II camera.  M50 Mark II
