EOS Rebel T7 Repairing an LCD?

I was on a Facebook Page earlier. A fellow said the LCD on his T7 died. H asked about repairs. I directed him to Canon's website for repair shops. A reply said it is an easy repair for about $25; a couple of screws and connect cables. My inquiry resulted in his stating to try Amazon or an online search. I'm wondering about the quality of the aftermarket LCD parts. Comments are welcome.

Hi John,

All you can do is give good advice.  In the case of Canon products, Canon service is the best recommendation.  If someone thinks they can do it better, or for less money, let them. They are likely bargain hunters. People who pride themselves on getting the lowest possible price. They are OK with glue, tape or a button or switch that doesn't work. We all have different standards.

Just because you can buy the part from Amazon does not mean it is not a Canon part. It may be the same original part as used by Canon. Canon has suppliers just like any large company.

The issue which is the same as it has always been, the technical skill to do the repair. Most people don't have it but some do. Its no different than say changing a spark plug in your car. Its a simple job but most would not consider doing it themselves. Still some think it is easy to do. Besides a Canon repair is somewhat different as they check out the entire camera. Why? Because something made that LCD fail. Perhaps it was just bad but what if it wasn't? The new one will fail quickly also. "We all have different standards."

Gentlemen, I agree with you. I recommended checking with Canon to get a service center or send to Canon for a quote. Yes, something is causing the LCD to die. Best to find out what is causing the problem. I also mentioned that repair can be more than the value of the camera; best to consider another camera or upgrade if the budget allows.
