Good Afternoon Canon Community Forums,
I bought a Canon SL3 bundle in early January to get back into DSLR hobby-ing photography. I decided I need more lenses and went on ebay for a "Used, But in Great Condition" Canon EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS Lens. It arrived today in great condition. Looks new. However, when hooking it to my DSLR it gives me "Err 64". I have tried it both with the camera powered off and the camera powered on. If it's off I turn it on to this message. No way to get out of the screen. If I turn it on and then attach the lens. The camera instantly turns off til I power cycle it again. Then, displays the same error Err:64. However, If I attach any of my other lenses(such as the kit lens 18-55mm) it works fine. What is wrong and how can I fix it?
Edit: I also compared the connectors and they are all the same. Only difference I see is that my kit lens sits flat against my DSLR. The other one (with the problem) shows a bit of silver ring about a mm in thickness all around but sits snug inside and clamps down (i attached an image below for you to see)
My search on Google came up with nothing for this error other than a "WiFi" issue. But, I disabled WiFi on the camera and got the same results.
edit 2: Both Lenses say they are compatible with this camera (see links)

No the lens mount on the lens is damaged. I don't recommend using this lens on your camera. It could cause more damage and even void your warranty. I would return the lens for a full refund. It's obvious that it's not mounting correctly from the pictures you posted. You can buy a new or refurbished lens from a reputable store. Such as B&H Photo, Adorama, KEH, Canon or a local camera store. Amazon and eBay are NOT reputable places to buy camera gear. Unless it says "Sold and shipped by Amazon". eBay has even more unknowns about the gear.

The camera should be returned. What you described sounds like a bent or damaged lens mount.

Good Afternoon Deebatman316,
If this was the case- Why do my other lenses work? Only this one lens doesn't 😞

I mistyped what I said. I should've said lens not camera. My phone autocorrected it. The lens in question has a bent lens mount. Not the camera. It is not mounting correctly to the camera. I would return the lens. What other lenses do you have. Are they EF or EF-S. This makes a difference because they mount a little differently.

Good Evening deebatman316,
It is a EF-S lens.
I did a few more troubleshooting steps I cleaned the camera lens connectors with a clean dry microfiber cloth and I booted up the camera and got the Err: 64 again. However, Oddly enough- I switched the SL3 to "Video" mode and I was able to see a LiveView through the camera and hear the camera controlling the AutoFocus of the Lens. I quickly switched it back to portrait mode and was able to autofocus and snap off 1 to 3 pictures with no issue. after about 6 seconds of waiting after taking the picture, it went back to black screen on the camera and "Err: 64" I wiggled the lens a little bit and it disappeared again and I got two pictures off before it gave me Err: 64 again. Any other suggestions we can try with this? I spoke with Canon support and they suggested I either return it too or, upgrade it for a discounted price.

Thank you deebatman316! The seller has it listed as "No Returns Accepted" I will contact the seller and see if they will allow me to return it and at worst case if Ebay can get involved to allow me to return it or my money on the item.
Thank you again for all your help!!!

The "No Returns Accepted" on the Ebay listing does not apply if the item is defective, especially if it is described as "Great Condition". Ebay will make the seller take it back. Enter a Return on Ebay and you will describe the reason.
Buying used cameras and lenses is much safer from a legit used equipment dealer. Roberts/UsedPhotoPro, KEH, MPB, B&H are some of the mail-order ones. You get a warranty (usually six months). UsedPhotoPro and KEH do sell on Ebay also, so look for them as the Seller.
