I recently got an eos r8. I am shooting with the kit lens rf24-50mm. I have been using it for a few weeks but have just started having this problem. When I upload my pictures to my computer via sim card they look fine for a few seconds, then change to show a ring around the picture like the lens. Examples below. It doesn't do this on every picture but most. It now has also started doing it to my pictures in lightroom. The pictures on my camera though are perfect and never show this ring or lens. I really need some help because when it does this it completely changes the quality of the picture. Thank you!

Peter's answer is correct. When the image is viewed on camera or first loaded into Lightroom the embedded JPEG image is displayed with camera-applied image correction adjustments. As soon as LrC generates a preview from the RAW file the camera adjustments are ignored. If you go to the Develop module in LrC and apply the Lens Corrections you should get a corrected image. If you LrC isn't up to date (or if LrC doesn't yet have correction data for the lens) you could use free Canon DPP to process the image and generate a TIFF file that can be further edited in LrC.
Many camera manufacturers are now relying on the processing power in the camera to correct for lens aberrations. That allows them to produce smaller and less expensive lenses.

Can you upload one of the photo files?

I shot my pictures in RAW. And to upload here I would have to convert it to JPG. When I go into lightroom to convert it to JPG it saves without the black ring (minus any editing). The picture uploads perfect to lightroom in raw format, but when I add a preset it adds the black ring like it does to the original pictures from the sims card

It doesn't appear that this is a Canon problem, but a setting in Lightroom (your preset?). Is there a Lightroom help forum you can ask this question?

Canon has some lenses that doesn't cover the whole sensor area. For example RF 16/2.8, RF 24-240 or RF 14-35. The embedded JPEG is corrected but the raw converter needs to have a lens profile.
If the same is true for your lens I don't know, but it seems like that.

This was the problem! I was able to use the lens correction in LrC and it fixed it right away. Thank you!
