What started as a sporadic failure - now seem to be constant. Other functionalities of the camera are ok.
There are no issues with the viewfinder. The touch capabilities are also fine - but the display is corrupted.

If this is when you are trying to view images on the SD card try reformatting the SD card. While you probably have an internal failure it's free to try the suggestion.

Thank you for your reply.
It actually happens immidiatly on power on.
I've tried to format the card - no improvement.

Contact Canon for service or warranty repair, depending on camera age.

Thank you.
Pretty disappointing the R8 require service little over a year after purchase.
Each one of my previous Canon DSLRs served me for over a decade.

Welcome to the club, it seems. Have you installed firmware version 1.4.0 ? I am suspecting it as a potential cause. I would be quite surprised if it turns out to be a motherboard problem.
I have been having a very similar issue with my R8 since last week. I had turned the camera on after about three weeks of inactivity, and after about a minute the "hash screen" showed up for the first time. I've run tests and found that the hash screen can come up spontaneously after an idle period, or right after taking a shot, sometimes repeatedly. The hash screen goes away and the camera usually returns to normal function after pressing the shutter button 3 to 6 times. The problem appears to be independent of whether an SD card is installed, shutter mode (EFCS or electronic), or EF or RF lens installed. It tends to recur multiple times after shutter button "reset" described above. I have not been able to determine a pattern by which to anticipate when the glitch will occur. The camera is by no means "bricked"...however its reliability is obviously unacceptably compromised.

Hi Jeff,
Your suggestion is something I didn't think trying, mainly because even removing the battery and placing it back didn't solve the issue (though it is the only way to solve some other instabilities I've experienced).
For me the issue started when I was at an event taking short videos and saving battery by turning the camera off after each shot. That's when the issue first appeared, initially less frequent and at some point - all the time.
The camera is in a Canon service lab right now. I'm waiting for their feedback.
Thanks for your reply and additional info!

Hey, Jeff. I hate to hear you're having such a frustrating time with your camera. If you suspect your camera is acting up due to a firmware update, it's important to report the situation to our tech support team so it can be documented officially. Our engineers won't know what needs to be worked on if it isn't reported! 😊
EOS Tech support is available weekdays from 9am to pm (ET) at 800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666).

Thanks Stephen. I called TS, the rep was not aware of any such issues so I briefed him. Due to the intermittent nature of the problem I thought it best to call and describe it rather than send my camera off to them right away.

Hi AlonT,
Please update your thread when you hear back from Canon. We are interested in learning what the issue was.
