EOS R6 Outrageous Cost of tightening up a Loose Hot Shoe

Just tried to set up a repair request for this for my Canon R6 and got an estimate of $405. Why is it so expensive?

I believe they need to disassemble the camera to reach the screws from the inside.

Yep.

Not to mention Canon doesn’t know how much work may be required without having the camera in front of them. To see the scale of work that is only an estimate. The price will be adjusted accordingly depending on what needs to be repaired or replaced.

I thought it had gone up to $500 now, unless you are counting on the 20% CPS Gold Membership discount. I have gone through 3 such repairs on my 5D mk III, R5 and R6. I don't even mount speedlights on the hot shoe any more (using transmitter and improvised bracket with cold shoe)

Greetings,

This is a costly repair, but honestly it's one you want Canon to perform.  Peeling off the outer skin alone is cringe-worthy.  Imagine if you couldn't get it back on.  There are YouTube videos on the repair too.  The ones where they show the complete repair, but with screws left over are also classic.  This repair is best performed by Canon.

Thank you for all the responses! Do you know if they clean your camera in addition to the repair?

I think they do for all repairs.
