EOS R6 Mark II Wrong file name prefix since upgrade to firmware 1.6.0

adamwright1

Before upgrading to firmware 1.6.0 my camera saved photos with a filename prefix of IMG_XXXX.  Ever since the file prefix is 2Z0AXXXX.  In both cases XXXX is the XXXXth photo since that number is reset.  I know, too much information

I cannot change the prefix in the Record func+card/folder sel. menu under "file name."  In that menu it is currently set to IMG_ but never saves phots with that prefix.

There was one possible solution in the discussions to do a full reset on the camera and then format the memory card.  That did not work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, Adam

In each EOS R6 Mark II camera there is a custom mix of 4-characters that form the start of the 8-character filename. This is the preset code for your camera. There are also two user settings for the filename, User setting1 and User setting2. By default user setting1 is set to IMG_ but you can change it to any 4-character combination you like, I use R62_ so I can tell the photo is from the EOS R6 Mark II. Once you change the user setting, you then also need to go to the top entry that shows File name then you choose from the three option; camera preset code, user setting1 and user setting2.  I would choose the IMG_ fas the middle option from that list.

This is the relevant manual page: https://cam.start.canon/en/C012/manual/html/UG-08_Set-up_0060.html

Brian,

I may have confused things here.  The configured prefix is IMG_.  The Preset code is 2Z0A.  The actual files start with 100-.

I can change the settings but they do not seem to take.  The photos are always prefixed with 100-.  I've tried to reset the whole camera and formatting the memory cards.  No difference.

Sorry for the confusion.

Are you seeing that on the camera LCD? In the camera the image is identified by the folder and the four digit image number (100 is the default initial folder). The file prefix is assigned when image written to the card.

John,

The files start with 100- both in the camera and after I transfer them to my computer.  I may be making a mountain out of a mole hill but I like to keep these things uniform.

Is this when you just open the download file folder or are you using a software open the files in the folder?

John,

Everywhere I can look at the filename it starts with 100- rather than IMG_, on the view screen or after I import the files to my computer.  I use EOS utility 3 to import.  This began right after I upgraded to firmware 1.6.0

What does the camera show in Menu Yellow->1->File Name?

Is it possible that you have set EOS Utility to rename the files on import to your computer. This is a setting in the EOS Utility preferences, you can access them from the initial black EOS Utility screen at startup. It might be something like this?
