EOS R6 Mark II powers on and off by itself

Recently, when my R6 Mark II is powered off, I noticed it will power on for about 1 or 2 seconds and then power of again.  This happens about every 20-30 seconds.  The only way to stop it is to take the battery out.  It may be a coincidence, but I think this started after I upgraded the firmware to v1.6.0 several weeks ago.  It does this enough that it will completely drain a fully charged battery in about 48 hours.

Any thoughts on what is happening?

Steve

Do you have Bluetooth switched on? With Bluetooth on, the camera keeps the circuit live to allow the camera to be accessed from the Camera Connect App. I have been able to get the photos from my powered off camera in my camera bag using the app on my phone.

“ I think it's been on for years, but never caused a problem.  I wonder if the latest firmware version is making it act that way.  I'll sure check and see. “

Your issue seems to be unique.  So I doubt the firmware update has anything to do with it.  But we have had a few posts about cameras locking up for no apparent reason.  These issues pre-date the release of R Series cameras.

The issues seemed to coincide with the inclusion of Wi-Fi, and later on Bluetooth, integrated with the camera bodies.  Smartphones are always hunting for a connection.  They seem to find cameras and cause the camera to seemingly lock up.

it’s best to disable all wireless communications if you are not actively using them.

This caught me with my R5 until I read the manual section on the WIFI. Now I take the battery out when I am done for the day just in case I forget to turn it off. 🙄

Hmm. I'll check that.  It's probably on, but has never caused a problem in the past several years.  I guess something may have changed in the latest firmware that is causing it to act that way.

Thanks for the tip.
