EOS R6 Mark II & RF 35mm 1.8 One Shot AF doesn't lock onto selection

Recently purchased a RF 35mm 1.8 STM.

I am having a problem when used with my R6 MK II.

When using the Av mode - One Shot...regardless of one Spot AF, 1 Point AF or Expanded it does not lock onto the selection I choose on the joystick in the back for the focusing point.

I am using BAF.

Also using Subject Detect to Auto - Eye Detectin Auto

Does not matter the AF setting.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

The camera will always focus on something that is closer to it or has the most contrast. This is what’s happening in the video. You should be able to override focus by turning the focus ring. But MF after One Shot needs to be enabled in the camera menu. Also Electronic Full Time Manual Focus needs to be enabled too. By default both settings are disabled from the factory. Note the focus ring is electronic so the AF-ON, * or shutter button will need to be pressed for the focus ring to work. This lens uses focus by wire technology. It needs power from the camera even for manual focus. MF is done by the lens’ AF motor.

Thank you for your assistance.

Shouldn't the box that I am focusing on always lock into the spot it is located?

What is the point of being able to move the box with the joystick if it doesn't not function as such?

I literally can put the box on pine trees to the side of my deck, and it will bounce to focus on the rail instead.

It has to deal with contrast and how close or far away something is. If the item lacks sufficient contrast the camera will focus on something else that does. The example video shows low light which is the enemy of AF systems. What looks bright to us is not bright to the camera. The camera sees things in gray and not color like our eyes do. Do you have any other lenses to try out instead?
