EOS R6 Mark II - Which Priority To Shoot For The Holiday

Cantrell
Rising Star

All,

I have a Canon R6M2 with several lenses. We are having Thanksgiving at our house with the family. Which includes our grow children and their children and my 92 year old mother in law. All of the shots will be taken indoors. Normally I shoot in manual, but wondering if I should shoot in different priority. Just concerned that I will miss a shot because I am adjusting the ISO or shutter speed.

I am thinking about using my 24-240mm lens. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance. I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving.

SignifDigits,

Thank you for your comments. Things went well on Thanksgiving. Should have taken more pictures of the grandchildren playing outside. My mistake. It was a good time.

Super glad to hear you had a good day.  I can use all the help that I can get as well!  Hopefully we will get another chance at Christmas.  I'm sure I missed some great shots yesterday, but honestly sometimes its just great to only be in the moment and enjoy just being with people and not thinking of taking pictures.  I depend upon excellent phone cameras for shared snapshots these days and use my Canon RF gear for closeups, action shots landscapes wildlife, etc.  Shooting the lunar and solar eclipses is fun, too.  I can use Pro or manual modes on my phone and save in RAW, and have done so, but I'm not sure that is a skill that I want to personally invest the time and energy into to become proficient.

And seems we can never get enough pictures of grandchildren!  They grow up so fast!

SignifDigits,

I agree never can get enough pictures of the grandchildren. I use my camera on my phone very infrequently. I do not have the skill set with the phone that you have. I carry the camera with me during the holidays. I keep it in easy grabbing distance.

Have a good rest of the holiday weekend.

There really is no reason to ever shoot manual unless you have some tricky lighting to deal with.

If it's family snapshots just put it in the auto mode that allows the pop-up flash to fire--if so equipped--because the goal isn't photography but snapshots.

Oh gosh no! The nifty 50 is always the wrong focal length.

LeeP

Thank you for comments. What focal length would you use in this situation?

Reese

One wide enough to capture what you want to capture so probably 24-50mm (at most). The 50 won't be wide enough for good snapshots/documentary which is what you'd be taking rather than "photographs".

Thank you for your reply.
