EOS R6 II corrupt files

I am not sure anything can done but wanted to see if there are last-ditch efforts I can try.

I shot RAW on my r6m2 to a sd card.  Half of the photos are fine and half of the photos from the same shot as well as photos from future shoot are unreadable.  It says "can not playback" when in my camera and "file type is not recognized" or "file not able to be opened" in Topaz or Preview on my macbook.  There are not thumbnails on my camera or computer. The corrupt files are CR3 and have the same file size as the healthy photos.

Interestingly before I recognized I had a problem I noted a few photos in my camera said “can’t playback” and I assumed it was a video and ignored. I continued to shoot on that same card and what started as a few corrupt photos turned into many. As in, several photos that were fine became corrupt. It seemed to spread. I inserted a new sd card and the first few photos I shot were corrupt and the rest of the 600+ photos are fine on that second card.

I tried disk drill, stellar photo, header transplant, all of which were not successful. Anything else I can try? I really don’t want to reshoot

I do need to update the r6m2 firmware. Also, I shoot on the baseball/softball field in dust. I have read that sd contacts could be a problem. I’m also having trouble with the lens converter contacts.  Any other thoughts on the cause?

You have not mentioned, but have you formatted the cards in camera?  Especially the new card.  Don't reformat the old card(s) yet in case you want to try recovery.  You say that half of the photos are fine, what events may have happened between the good photos and corrupted photos?  Was the card(s) removed at all or any settings on how the cards are used changed?

I doubt dust is a problem unless you are changing cards or lenses in dusty air.

I format the sd cards in the camera originally but that was some time ago. I did not format the card recently, when it contained photo files.

The sd card remained in the camera between events. I then inserted a new card that was already formatted to shoot another game. I have been shooting sports for 2-3 years with this camera and sd cards and haven’t run into this.

yes, I do switch lenses on the field. It is dusty. I don’t regularly open the card slot on the field but I am sure that I have done it.

The freshly formatted card not working does indicate a problem.  You may try blowing the card slots out to take care of possible dust.

What do you mean by already formatted? SD cards don’t come pre-formatted. What seems to be formatting on a new card is actually residue from production tests, which needs to be low level formatted away

That is way too long a period of time to go without formatting the card.  I format cards, instead of deleting files.

What brand and model cards are you using? What capacity? Full size cards?
