Are you using USB, HDMI, or both? AC adapters?

The camera is powered using Canon's continuous power kit and connected to the computer via HDMI out. The lens is the RF 28-70

I would try it without the AC adapter, although I expect the same result.
What are your AF settings? How far are you away from the camera?
What are your exposure settings? I’m not certain why the camera would freeze, except if you had a bad memory card or a ground loop.
What if you switch the camera to the automatic exposure mode?
You could also try resetting the camera back to factory defaults.
