EOS R5 Mark II How to automate FB/AEB for custom modes

mccrossan

I wanted to set up C1 for Focus Bracketing and C2 for Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) on my R5 Mark II, but after registering the settings for each, when you turn the camera off, Focus Bracketing and AEB are disabled. All other settings are saved. (The manual does confirm FB and AEB reset when the camera is shut off. So apparently. they decided this was a good idea.) The best workaround I found is to add FB and AEB to the Quick Control Screen so I can set them up every time. Has anyone else found a way to make FB and/or AEB more automated?
Thanks!

Do you have auto bracketing cancel set to ON (the default) in the custom functions? If so then try turning it off.

I don't have the EOS R5 Mark II but all the other cameras I tried work in the same way. EOS R10, EOS R6, EOS R6 Mark II.

Additionally flash exposure bracketing is a function of the Speedlite, not the camera body even though it can be set from the camera menus. I checked the Speedlite 600EX-RT II and there is a custom function in the menu to also stop the flash bracketing from being reset on power off. It's the same in other Speedlites that support FEB. Here's the page in the Speedlite EL-5 manual as an example C.Fn-03

UPDATE: I now realise the question was about both AEB and focus bracketing. My answer applies for AEB only. There's no similar capability to retain the focus bracketing settings when the camera is powered off.

Hello mccrossan,

You are correct in that those two features will be disabled once the camera is powered off unfortunately. The workaround that you have found is the best route to access those things quickly at this point.

Or, you could add them to a custom user menu.

Thanks. That worked. It makes no sense to me that I can't do the same with focus bracketing.
