I am looking for verification that my analysis is correct.
The Look File setting in the Custom Picture can be On or Off. This is after a LUT has been registered. The HDR/C. Log View Assist setting (in my case) can be off or set to On (BT 709 during CP). What I found is this:
If Look File is off and the Assist is On, then the resulting file saved is in CLOG2 (how the Custom Picture has it specified) and what I see in the view finder looks natural.
If they are both On, then what I see in the view finder is way too saturated and what is saved is not in CLOG2
If they are both Off, then what I see in the view finder is the flatter CLOG2 rendering and what is saved is in CLOG2.
If Look File is On and Assist is Off, then what I see in the view finder looks natural but what is saved is not in CLOG2.
I guess Look File being On or Off specifies if the LUT will be baked into what is saved in the card but not what is viewed while recording. Is that correct?
And it seems the View Assist can only translate to BT 709 which may or may not be what the LUT is doing.

Hi pedz,
The information you listed is in line with what we would expect. The main thing is that Look Files and Canon Log settings are baked into the file itself. View Assist is only shown on either a connected HDMI device or the viewfinder and rear LCD on the camera. View Assist isn't saved into the file itself. That setting simulates how the camera expects your video to look on an HDR compatible display. View Assist is more of a tool or guide to tell if you are getting the shot (exposure and color) you want before you start recording.
If you would like to view information on View Assist it is in the manual on pages 302-305. If you need a copy of the current manual it is available HERE. Once you are on the web page click on the Manuals button and the one to reference is named EOS R5 Mark II Advanced User Guide.
