Anyone else having a freezing/hanging issue with their R5 Mk ii? Generally, it seems like it shows the last image taken in the view finder. Powering off does not clear it, requires the removal of the battery. Currently in Europe, headed back to the States tomorrow. Has consistently happened several times a day - up to almost two dozen today. Doesn’t seem to matter which of my batteries (using both LP-E6P and LP-E6NH batteries) or which memory card (a mixture, but generally Sony Tough cards) I’m using. Not panicking (yet), it is firmware 1.0.0; however, today was annoying - missed several shots due to the freezing. Mostly just curious if anyone else is having the same issues? Thanks - Kevin

Hi, my R5m2 helped me to answer you: I installed the RF 35/1,8 and immediately the cam freezed. Battery out and in, second try: Everything ok. So it's not the heavy lens.
As a bird photographer I use the RF 200-800 and a EF 4.0/500 as the main lenses.

I think I have completely resolved the problem for me. Today I cleaned with a lens cleaning cloth both the seemingly new contacts on the f/2 lens and the EOS R5 Mark II and it never froze when shooting video for minutes nor taking photos for an hour. Much better improvement than before when it was constantly giving errors and freezing.
It seems the camera's contacts are much more sensitive to dust on the lens contacts area and vice versa and they must be completely clean in order to not freeze or give electrical errors.

LostOne, I tried cleaning the contacts and it did not help me. Has your camera continued to have no freezes? Unfortunately, this has been intermittent for me (although it has happened to me up to 6 times in one day before I give up and use my R5 v1), so even if it is OK for a couple of days the problem has returned. Although see my reply below.

I have the same issue. Brand new Canon r5 mkii with brand new Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. Using my EF lenses, which communicate perfectly on my DSLR bodies (5d mk iv). No third party lenses, just original Canon L glass. Happens regardless of lens I use. It will work intermittently, but freeze after a few shots. I am using the new Canon LP-e6p battery and new Silicon Power 512GB CFexpress Type B Memory card. This freezing issue renders the new $4300 camera body completely useless for professional use. With the amount of complaints, you'd think Canon would be all about either fixing it in firmware updates or recalling the bodies ASAP.

This is appearing to be a common problem. I have 2 R5 MKII bodies which both lock up from time to time. It has NO bearing on the lens, nor the size or manufacture of the CF or SD cards. There has been no relief from firmware upgrade (currently 1.0.2 on mine), nor has CPS service claimed to have observed or replicated the issue even after after both bodies have been in for service. There has been NO change, even after restoration to factory settings and reprogramming the camera. I respectfully submit that Canon has an issue that it is spending little to no time resolving, while at the same time, making it nearly impossible for us to contact them directly for a much needed conversation. Both my camera bodies are currently under warranty, and I am getting dangerously close to cashing them in for another brand.

SCPhoto, did you reset to factory after the 1.0.2 update? I have tried that and it may have helped. Unfortunately, this has always been intermittent and I've never figured out a way to cause it to happen. After Canon replaced the main circuit board twice (!) I very much doubt it was the problem. After I applied the 1.0.2 firmware I still had freezes. I also cleaned all the lens contacts just in case that would make a difference and since it froze I don't think that was the problem.
It occurred to me that sometimes you need to restart a computer after an update. I reset the camera to factory default, and then reapplied my saved settings. It has not happened in the 6 times I've taken it out since then. If it happens again I will send it in right away. Hopefully for a replacement. However, if this fixed it, that would be good for everyone with this problem. I may never trust this camera 100% and I'm very disappointed in Canon and Canon repair. If you haven't done this, try it and let us know.
