EOS R5 Mark II Focus switches between people too quickly, focuses on wrong thing

yesterday was my first time shooting on an r5 mark ii i mainly shoot track and field meets and yesterday i went to a track meet and took around 4500 pictures i noticed 2 things that i didn’t like the best the auto focus was weird and would switch between people too quickly and not focus on what i wanted it too a bunch and the amount of pictures i took was so many how could i change those 2 thing?

The AF on the camera is pretty good, but to get the best from it for specific subjects then it helps to make some adjustments to the default settings. Please explain the settings you were using, or share an unedited image on dropbox or similar that can be downloaded to show the settings in Canon DPP

Secondly the way to take less photos is to press the shutter less often, and or use a slower drive speed. Shooting in the default electronic shutter at 30fps is a lot of photos every second. You might try to either use one of the slower drive modes, and even adjust the frame rate for continuous shooting. It is also possible to setup a button to switch drive mode if you suddenly need to use a higher speed but otherwise keep slower shooting speeds.
