Hi, so I accidentally hit a button on my canon EOS R3 and now I have this random flashing gray box on my screen/viewfinder. I know it has to do with auto focus as when I focus on something it disappears and when I’m in manual focus it disappears as well. It’s not spot focus as I can’t move it with the touch screen or the joystick. I have looked online I can’t find relevant help. Can someone tell me what this is and how to disable it

Did you enable subject tracking perhaps? When in doubt of what you may have changed, you could return the camera back to default settings.

This is just a guess, but look in the AF 3 menu and see if "Preview AF" is enabled. If so, disable it and see if that removes the box.

Hi James, I believe you've accidentally added a home point. You can check by activating your focus mode selection and press/hold the exposure compensation button until it beeps. This will disable the option.

I had the same issue and the above worked for me. Relevant section of the manual is here :

I do love this camera but there's a lot to get to know as been out the game since my 40d
