EOS R10 hangs while installing firmware 1.40 update

EricL

I noticed a new firmware version 1.4.0 while "connecting" the camera to my iPhone.
After transfer, the LCD shows Loading and then nothing on the Firmware update program display.
The red light at the back and the aniti-red eyes lights blink .... for over 20 minutes but nothing seems to work.

I restarted the update on the camera maintenance screen - same effect.

A new upload from the phone: same effect.

HELP?

Canon support suggested a firmware update solution using laptop and placing the firmware on a memory card. That solution process worked. I am now at version 1.4.0.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Welcome to the forum.

I’m sorry to hear about this sensitive issue.  Does your camera still function?  I hope you have not caused it to completely lock up.  If not, then stop trying to upgrade the firmware.

I never knew it was possible to upgrade camera firmware using a smart phone.  The most common method is to use a memory card.  It is possible to upgrade firmware from your computer when you are connected with a USB cable.  Never heard of using a smart phone before.

I recommend that you contact Canon Support about your issue.

It's a relatively recent addition to the Camera Connect App to be able to update of a section of cameras, mostly EOS R5/R6 and later models. When you connect one of these cameras to the app, the app can/will notify you of firmware updates. If there's an update you can choose to download it from Canon, and once downloaded it is transferred from the phone to the camera by Camera Connect app. Canon's idea is that there are people using cameras who might not have access to a computer, but do have a tablet and or phone.
