EOS 6D Mark ll "AF ON" Button Question

On the back of the body is a button labeled 'AF On'. But on the top is another button for AF Operation. The manual doesn't reference the On button just operation. Is the On button redundant? What am I missing?

Please download the instruction manual. It covers what all the button functions are and how to use them. It can be downloaded from this Canon webpage:

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/eos-6d-mark-ii

Pages 28 and 29 show the camera with the buttons and labels and page number links to the button description of operation. AF ON = AF Start = same as half press on shutter button.

Simply, the AF-ON button CAUSES the camera to focus. The buttons on top tell the camera HOW to focus, and how to perform other operations. .

You are absolutely right! A digital camera has so many functions and features. Quickly reading through the manual will show you that, and kinda give you an idea what it can be told to do. You may never have need to change many of them from the factory defaults, though. Start out with the basics. You'll keep on discovering things for a long time.
