I have the Canon 5D Mark IV. How do I go about sending it in to have canon install Canon Log? Where do I send it in the US? I live in Florida. Thanks!

Greetings ,

Register your camera in your MyCanon account and contact support.  I suspect the service might still be available. It's usually a hundred bucks.

https://myprofile.americas.canon.com/us

Then call 1-800-652-2666.  If you're in Florida, you'll probably be shipping your camera to Newport News, Virginia.

Be aware that if and when Canon installs the Canon Log firmware, then you will need to send the camera back to Canon for any future updates.  The firmware updates available online for download do not include Canon Log.

It is not a different firmware. It is an on/off feature in the original firmware, just like the language lock found in cameras sold in Japan. However, you cannot activate it without service software.

It is also unlikely that we will see any more firmware updates for 5D IV. Especially after what 1.5.0 did.

Hi Peter,

Happy Holidays.  I did not know about the EU specific changes in v1.5.0.  Just read up about it.  Thank you for mentioning it.  😉

I doubt if there will be any more updates.  I don’t even know if Canon is still servicing the camera, much less installing Canon Log. I don’t know the version number of the Canon Log firmware.

But all of the above is entirely irrelevant to the original point I was making. There are posts in the forum from users who had Canon Lig firmware, updated their camera using an online download and “lost” their Canon Log.

In other words, once you have Canon Log factory installed, updated, switched on, or however it happens, the user should no longer perform online updates.

Your post is highly suggestive that performing online updates causes no harm.  That’s untrue.

You may be right https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/EOS-DSLR-Mirrorless-Cameras/Canon-5D-Mark-4-C-log-update-gone/td-...

"Finally I talked with the official dealer here on the phone and he had a little update. So you have 2 ways to update your camera with firmware, thats trough utility or you put the software on the card an let the camera update via the card. IF you have Clog, and you do an update via 'canon utility' seems there is no problem..However, if you put the firmware on the card an update from there..well.. there could be a bug that removes the clog from the register..and that's what happened."

But it is still an on/off feature.
