My Canon M 50 suddenly stopped taking photos. Video still works. Appreciate any possible solutions. Also looking for recommendation for reputable repair service. Thanks in advance.

What happens when you try to take a photo?

In anticipation of an answer to Bob's question, one thing you can try is a system reset to factory default as a common cause of issues is something that has inadvertently been changed in the setup.

cheers, TREVOR

The mark of good photographer is less what they hold in their hand, it's more what they hold in their head;
"All the variety, all the charm, all the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow", Leo Tolstoy;
"Skill in photography is acquired by practice and not by purchase" Percy W. Harris

No shutter actuation with photos.

Tried factory reset - no luck.

Sounds like you need to call up Canon and schedule a repair.

Will it take a photo in silent shutter mode?

EOS M50 Mark II

Hi Krahe, I know this is an old thread, but I am at the same stage regarding the M50 where other than in safe mode, it won't take any photographs. In all other settings, including in my case manual, it sort of goes through the motions but doesn't save to the memory card, whereas in Scene/ Silent Mode, it saves to the card fine.
Videos are unaffected and works as normal.

What I've checked:
Battery contacts and battery power, change batteries
Memory card, swapped for different cards and reformed each one both within the camera settings and on a PC
Updated firmware
Cleared all settings back to default within each mode
Checked lens contacts and tried a different lens just in case
All contacts are clean and dust free
No difference when using the touch screen to take a photo mode

The issue simply started whilst in the middle of using the camera whilst taking photographs, which is odd.

Is there anything else you could suggest, I'm out of ideas?
Paul
