I just got a canon rebel t5i and everything and all the buttons work but when I press the menu button nothing happens, literally nothing. Is this something I need to send in to get fixed or is there something I can do?

Greetings,
Let's start with the following:
Put the camera into "P" ort "M" mode.
Power off, remove the battery, memory card and lens.
Reinsert the battery, and power the camera on. Open the LCD. You should see a black screen with some properties around the edges.
Press the Menu button, what happens?
If successful, I'd reset the camera to defaults and reconfigure it.

" Is this something I need to send in to get fixed..."
If Rick's excellent advice doesn't help and make it work, a T5i isn't a good candidate for repair. Repair is likely as much or more than it's worth. Probably very much more!
