Canon RP options stabilization (IS) running all the time

I got my first mirrorless camera today a used Canon RP I have rest the all setting and updated firmware but I have run in to a problem. Whenever the camera is on at all the options stabilization (IS) will run continuously im unable to find the setting to turn this unwanted behaviour off I only need / want options stabilization then I press the shutter as you do on a DSLR.

I have tried all the lenses I have to hand RF, EF and EF-S 10 different lenses some problem on all of them. I have the info view set to the same one you get on DSLRs ie no live view. Just looking at all the menus and testing lenses I have already drained one battery flat.

I'm hoping I have missed something or i have a bad camera LOL.

I will be using this camera at airshows where there is lots of gap where the camera will be resting on a shoulder strap so there will be lots of time when the camera is on but not being using, but with the IS run continuously the battery will not last long. My 90D with a battery grip using a sigma 60-600mm I can us it all day (10Hr~) take around 8K photos and still the battery will not even be ½ empty I can do two days just and still not have a dead battery. I understood mirrorless have less battery life but this is but this is ridiculous.

Greetings,

I'm not following your description.  "Whenever the camera is no at all the options stabilization (IS) will run continuously im unable to find the setting to turn this unwanted behaviour off"....

Could you be mistaking Continuous AF with IS?

Dyslexia strikes again

No its not continuous AF that is disabled.

The problem i have is IS (Image Stabilisation) I can hear it running all the time as soon as the camera is turned on. Ie turn the camera on touch no controls and you can hear IS (Image Stabilisation) running. The Image Stabilisation on my EF 70-300mm f/5-5.6 IS USM is loud enough to hear.

On all the DSLRs iv used the IS (Image Stabilisation) only starts when you half-press the shutter.

HI and welcome to the forum!

If the attached lens has an Image Stabilizer and you set the Image Stabilizer (IS) switch to <1>, the Image Stabilizer will operate at all times even if you do not press the shutter button halfway. The Image Stabilizer consumes battery power and may decrease the number of possible shots depending on the shooting conditions. When the Image Stabilizer is not necessary, such as when using a tripod, it is recommended that you set the IS switch to <2>.:
Since the EF 70-300 series does not have numerical options, your best bet is to turn off IS unless required.  Other solutions suggest that the IS will not operate when in Menu mode or Image View mode, FWIW.

Well that is a very odd way to have this work.
Is this the same on all Canons mirrorless camera I was planning to pick up a R6 mk2 later this year.

Yes all the R-series cameras work this way.
