Anybody else having this problem with the Canon R6 freezing up. It usually starts with the camera not focusing. Its also becomes none responsive to mode changes. The on/off button doesnt work. Opening the battery door shuts it off... but still doesn't fix it. Pulling the battery out usually fixs the problem right away. But again... not always and sometimes it take a few battery removals to get it back up and running.
This has happened while shooting both photo and video. It happens with different lenses. It happens with different memory cards. I can't recreate the problem on command. The camera works 99% of the time. But at least once a wedding shoot, over the period of 6 hours, It freezes up!
In the video below... I was attached to the Ronin gimbal. But it's happened just shooting photos and without the gimbal. Plus, when I open the battery door and try and turn the camera on/off... it still doesn't work. Has nothing to do with that.
I was on firmware version 1.4
I updated the firmware this week to version 1.5.0.
This problem has been happening for a long time... 8 months. Camera is less than a year old.
Again, at last nights wedding... it froze.
Here is a video that I recorded when it happened.
1. Focus isn't working. Both back button and touch.
2. Display freezes up. You can still see the audio working.
3. On/off doesn't work.
4. open battery door... nothing works.
5. Pull Battery

We're using the new RF lenses. 15-35, 35 and 24-70. Happens with all of them. Also happens with Canon adapter and thre rest of my stable of EF lenses.
Pretty sure it's not the lens or mount.

Same, it doesn't matter which lenses I am using.
I started labeling my batteries and narrowed it down to two batteries that my camera freezes up when using. Once I removed those batteries from the rotation, it stopped happening. The batteries are the new Canon direct from B&H, so not black-market or off brand. I would highly recommend rotating which batteries are in your camera when it freezes.
Now if I could figure out why my R6 freaks out sometimes when using off-camera flash. The ISO will change itself to auto and sometimes my strobes flash with a magenta hue.
Anyway, I hope this helps.

Thank you so much DellaMorte. I only use Canon OEM batteries and usually the newest LP-E6NH ones with the mirrorless cameras.
I can start to lable and track them to see if this helps.
But to be clear... are we talking R6 or R5 now? We've strayed off topic I think!

Yes not the Lens for sure as I use the same ones on my R5 and don't have this issue. From what others have said it’s sounding like a motherboard issue. When I get my R6 back I’ll share feedback.

If you are convinced the issue is a bad motherboard, then send your camera to Canon for a checkup. This is not Canon Support.
TO ALL:
I’m not convinced. I ask people simple questions and get no response. Here are some examples.
Do you format your memory card(s) prior to first use? Doing a low level format is a “must do” with any new memory card.
Are you using UHS-II cards or changed brands? Some brands of SD cards do not work very well, like Sony.
Have you disabled wireless communications? This is another “must do”.
Good Luck resolving you issues. I am giving up.

Such a weird passive aggressive response that is simply not needed. I lost important moments from weddings last year because of this and it was indeed a motherboard issue that cost several hundreds of dollars to repair for both of my cameras. It wasn't a lens issue, it wasn't a card issue, it wasn't wireless communications. It was the motherboard. Anyone who is experiencing issues needs to send their camera in ASAP and get a new motherboard. Good luck on your giving up.

I am hope is a batch of motherboards that are defective, hopefully not all of them in R line of cameras.

Yeah, if you are right, then the cameras suck. I paid for a camera with ALL THE FEATURES that were offered to me. They need to be there 100 % of the time. If that is not the case, then is a defective product. "My car only goes at 70 mph if the headlights and wipers are off" would be unacceptable.

I use different memory cards... never had a problem with my Sony cards.
This has been going on for over a year... so not sure the level of formatting will help.
Wireless comminincation is tuned off... airplane mode is set to ON.
Please try and not be so agressive in response. We are all trying to help each other. I appreciate your responses with possible solutions. Not the attitude they are delivered with.
Almost seems like you are a Canon rep with something to prove.
let's keep things civil. gracias

You do not know what you are talking about. I have tried to help people only to find myself on the receiving end of verbal abuse. I suggest that you read through this entire thread and discover for yourself how far off base your comments are.
In fact, I can save you some time. As of this writing, the previous page is a perfect example of me asking simple questions, which get ignored. Instead, I get emphatic responses about what the problem is NOT, while more people joining the chorus.
No one wants to try basic troubleshooting. All they want to do is whine, complain, and vent at Canon. They are not looking to resolve their “issues.”
Have a nice day. Good luck resolving your camera issues.
