I have had my Canon r50 for over a year now, my warranty just expired in November (which makes this all that much more frustrating). Recently, I've noticed that my camera has stopped being able to connect to just about anything related to my computer, whether it is via wi-fi or USB. I am wondering if it has something to do with the most recent firmware update for the R50?
I have read countless Canon troubleshooting pages, forum posts, Reddit posts, and watched dozens of YouTube videos telling me it should just be "plug and play." That has not been my experience. I am usually a die-hard Canon fan but my faith is starting to waiver as I worry it is something internally wrong with my R50 that I don't have the money to get fixed...
EOS UTILITY + WEBCAM UTILITY
Every time I try to connect to either EOS Utility or EOS Webcam, my camera gets stuck at "pairing (connection) with the computer in progress. Start EOS Utility on the computer." It stays stuck on that page until I hit cancel or times out and gives me Error 11. Meanwhile, nothing comes up on my computer when I try "Pairing over Wi-Fi/LAN" or try pairing it with EOS Webcam Utility.
USB-C Connection
When I plug my camera in directly to my Lenovo laptop, there is not notification on my computer that a device is connected and it does not pop up anywhere in OBS Studio, EOS Webcam Utility, or anywhere else. Oddly though, my camera will recognize that it is plugged into... something. It gives me the "Camera control is limited when connected to AUC/UVC..." pop-up and then shows the standby screen.
I have reconfigured the "USB Connection Type" setting every which way to try and get both the USB-C and the EOS Utility to connect with no luck. I have tried turning on Airplane mode while connected via USB-C. I have tried re-installing EOS Utility. I have tried updating drivers/firmware. I have tried resetting communication settings. I have tried restarting everything. I just can't figure it out! At this point, I have put HOURS of time into this. My gut is telling me it's some kind of dumb driver issue or something wrong on my laptop's end but I am at a complete loss and so frustrated.
I wanted to start using my camera for streaming, I even signed up for the EOS Webcam Pro subscription, which is what led me to discover there was an issue in the first place.
I really hope someone on here can help me...

Wow that's weird. My first thoughts are it's not the camera.I can think of ways where one connection method might fail but not all at once. It could be the firmware update as you say.
Hopefully someone here can help.
I would also suggest calling Canon. It's likely you'll get help much quicker

I find it odd as well. It’s especially weird that it is connecting to my phone wirelessly but not my computer, which is what leads me to think it’s a driver issue and not an internal camera issue. I think I’m going to try disabling my phone app and see if maybe that’s interfering with the PC connection somehow?

Ezraelle,
Have you tried plugging something else into that USB port on your computer like a thumb drive? Does it recognize that a device is present?

Hi There!
Yes, I have a USB dock for my computer that has things like my mouse and keyboard, printer, and other connections that work just fine. I have tried connecting the camera’s USB-C to the USB 3.0 dock as well as directly to my computers USB 3.0 port with no luck!

I suggest that you perform a full reset on all communication settings in the camera. It would probably be best to uninstall and reinstall the app on the computer, too.
[EDIT]. Be sure to reboot after the uninstall, and again after the reinstall.
