Canon R5 Mark II + EL-5 Clicked downward = 100% Over Exposure

Well, I wonder if there are others with an EL5 and R5ii.

I noticed I got a lot over exposure shots, and was trying to figure out why. Now I found it. It seems when you click the flash down, it will go full power! even at iso100 F5.6 is get fully over exposed images. When I click it back into normal position, its fine.

I also have the EL1 and old 580exii and both act normal when clicking down. So this has to be an issue with the flash/firmware? Wondering if someone else can test this. Testing on a wall isnt enough btw, you need to focus on an object, to really show the difference.

Also, my R5ii is not even 30 days old, used on 3 outdoor jobs and this thing produced INSANE amount of dead/stuck pixels. Not even 1 but little rows and squares. It's crazy. So much worse then my R5 already. I can even see when it started from picture to picture. just random, and its worse on Low iso that they show, full green, red or red/white... Lucky, store will swap it. But the flash issue is for now my main issue! And would like to know if others can test this?

This is indeed unusual. Can you try and see what power level is selected when the flash is pointed straight and when pointed forward.

First enable flash exposure memory on the Speedlite EL-5, its P.Fn 04, I suggest you set this to 2. Then with the flash in E-TTL take a shot, with the flash pointing forwards, then press the joystick on the EL-5 down towards mode, this switches to manual mode and will preset the power to the one just used for E-TTL. Note this down.

Set the EL-5 back to E-TTL and tilt it down and take another shot. Then press the joystick down and see what power level is set in M mode. If that is significantly different then it could point to a bug and would be worth reporting to Canon.

All the extra testing isnt really needed. It's been confirmed by a friend who also has an R5ii and R3 and EL5, who can replicate the issue. On the R3 it's fine, but on R5ii, its overexposed when clicked down.
