Maybe the cropped image size with an EF-S lens is smaller than the cropped image size of the video with a full frame lens.

The EOS R series mirrorless cameras have restrictions when using EF-S or the New RF-S lenses. These lenses force the camera to operate in 1.6x crop mode. Due to the image circle being smaller than Full Frame. You will have a loss of megapixels when using APS-C lenses on a Full Frame body. They also don't allow the use of 50 or 60 FPS mode while in movie mode. If you Click here you will find the manual for your camera. Page 219 mentions restrictions on movie about EF-S lenses. Screenshot 2022-09-25 152841.png Screenshot 2022-09-25 153702.png

Bummer, thanks for the info, was waiting for canon to reply for days now, nice to know the community here is so active and helpful. Much appreciated. I’ve now bought a EF 24mm-105mm f4 is

Do you own EF or any 3rd party Full Frame lenses already. Due note 3rd party lenses may have incompatibilities.

The EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM lens covers the entire focal length of the your old EF-S 17-55mm F/2.8 IS USM kens. The EF-S 17-55mm F/2.8 IS USM lens is a great lens for APS-C. You'll have better results with the EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM and will allow you to use the Full Frame sensor to its full potential.
