Canon EOS 70D 18-55mm lens not focusing - manual or auto

I have a brand new 70D. The EFS 18-55mm lens won't focus regardless if the switch is AF or MF. I also have a EFS 55-250mm - that lens focuses with no issues. It's never been dropped. When not on the camera it stays in a protective case. The contacts don't appear to have any corrosion.

Any ideas?

Is it an STM lens? Are you allowing it to "wake up"?

If you're doing that then warranty service I would guess.

The lens doesn't have STM on it. I ended up doing a chat session with the seller and they are going to RMA the lens.

Wish I didn't have to do that since I have a job this weekend but at least I'll get a working lens.
