Canon EOS 300D, error 99

Telegraphist

My camera is showing Error 99 and I have tried everything on the internet and AI but cannot sort it. Both my expensive lenses work perfectly well when I take a picture but once I have pressed the button the error 99 comes up, and to enable me to take another photograph, I have to switch it off and then turn it back on again. The CF card also records the photographs OK.

Therefore, should I reset it to factory settings?..

I was wondering what the spots were, too... I wonder if the condensation may have caused one of the PCBs to short somewhere downstream so that the photo takes and writes, but basically it can't complete the function loop, and the camera basically says, "Um. I don't know what's wrong, but I can't finish my job so ERR 99" 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stephen you could well be right, but I ain’t going back inside, and will let sleeping dogs lie.

Oh, I hear you 100%! It was a fun project, and you learned something. Kudos to you for that!

Thanks anyway LeeP, but believe it or not I noticed your site did accept my original information and photographs of the dissembling of the Canon EOS 300D and a couple of people have replied, which I have replied back to them, nevertheless, I will shortly be riding by bike out of the system, to look for pastures green, with my second hand Canon EOS 300D.

Thanks for your kind words

John

Thanks for reporting back on your progress, such as it is. I've opened up a couple of point and shoot type cameras over the years but nothing that I've effected any repairs on. Even these lesser camera models seemed amazingly complex, and my old eye-bones aren't working as well as they used to! A few years ago I bought a couple of these Digital Rebels from two different sources because they were practically being given away. And I was able to take a few hands-on test shots before purchasing. They've seen some use as back-up rigs and still continue to work as designed.

Usually the site has operated pretty flawlessly for me, but the last week or so it seems to be temperamental. I'm sure it will smooth out.

I wish it were "my" site--it isn't--because none of us are Canon employees.

Thanks Whiz for your information.

Keep smiling and have a great day.

I am now on my bike and leaving the system to pastures green, taking photographs with my second hand Canon EOS 300D which has now got a 8GB CF card inserted and is working well.

Kind Regards
