Canon AE! Program

Hello,

I am trying to put in a new battery for my Canon AE1 Program Camera.  The view finder cover doesn't seem to come off.  Is there a secret to getting it off?

Scroll to ~8:30.
No connection between viewfinder and battery replacement.

In the instruction book it says there is.  Where is the battery?  Is it on the bottom of the camera?

This is the way ours is. The battery compartment is partially hidden by the grip.

Unscrew and remove the grip.

Remove grip.Remove grip.

Use your fingernail or a knife to pop open the cover with the little latch.

Battery 🙂

Watch the YouTube I posted.

If you don't have the little cover in the flash shoe just use a knife.

Like the A-1, the AE-1 Program has a right-hand "action grip" on the front of the camera. It also supports the A-1's Motor Drive MA; this requires another electrical contact on the base plate. The AE-1's Power Winder A, and a new, faster Power Winder A2, are also supported. The viewfinder uses LEDs to show information to the user.

You ought to get hold of a user manual for your AE-1 Program.  Printed originals can be found on ebay. A PDF file of it can be downloaded for free from the Mike Butkus website....https://www.butkus.org/chinon/   or just search (Google or whatever) for "Mike Butkus Website", if the actual URL doesn't show upin this forum.
