The menu option to turn external speedlight control on and off is no longer available.
Has anyone else had something similar and or know the solution.

What mode is the top mode dial set to. If it’s set to Auto Mode (Green Square) or any other automated shooting mode it won’t be available. Set the mode dial to the Creative Zone (M, Av, Tv, P) modes then it will become available. Also what speedlite are you using a Canon speedlite or a 3rd Party speedlite.

Great spot on the mode question. Looking at the screen on that camera, the camera is set to one of the auto modes, as there are not enough menu sections shown, only shooting, playback and setup menu tab icons are present.

Also newer speedlites will report “Locked” such as my 600EX II-RT, 470EX-AI and a 430EX III-RT. Which I donated to a friend who needed a flash. Older speedlites such as my 550EX don’t allow any changes and the buttons are ignored.
