Can't transfer images from EOS Rebel T6 to my PC

All of a sudden I can't transfer images from my Cannon EOS Rebel T6 DSLR camera to my Dell Inspiron 5490 All-In-One Desktop PC. I've tried with the SD card & USB cable. I have Windows 11, but I've had it for over a year and this is a new problem

I use the port that I normally have my webcam plugged into because I know it works. I hate to buy an external card reader because I already bought a USB cable to solve this problem and it didn't help

Is the cable you bought a data cable?  Some cables are just charging cables.

How important is it for you to download your images? You can buy a card reader from Amazon for $10. And if it turns out not to solve the problem you can return it.

I ordered one this morning, but I need to be able to upload them to the internet because I participate in contests

You are looking at a minimal investment of a few dollars vs pottering around trying to get other methods to work.
If you are uploading the the web you can do that from the computer and in the meantime have the chance to do your post-processing, so you can show your  best for the contests you want to enter.
As my colleague John said, you might have to get a different USB cable if the one you have is not a data-compatible cable, which could cost even more.   The SD card reader has been reliably used for decades, so the probability of it not working on your system is rather minimal.  The data transfer from a USB reader will be faster than for the USB port on your camera as well, so that is a bonus.

cheers, TREVOR

The mark of good photographer is less what they hold in their hand, it's more what they hold in their head;
"All the variety, all the charm, all the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow", Leo Tolstoy;
"Skill in photography is acquired by practice and not by purchase" Percy W. Harris

I can't do it from the computer if I can't get my images onto my computer

When you say "tried with the SD card" do you mean card removed from camera and in a card reader?

If so, that would seem to be a computer issue. Have you had a recent OS update?

Yes

If “Yes” means you had a recent OS update then you probably beed to post on a Windows support site. Card readers are not camera specific.

I installed the updates from Cannon, but nothing changed. The rectangle pops up when I put the card in the reader, but it's still blank. The images are on the card. I can see them in playback. The updates went to my pc, not my camera, even though I had my camera connected to my pc via the USB cable and had it turned on, but I didn't see anything change on my camera
