Can I silence my camera? It makes a loud click when I take a picture.

When I take pictures outside the loud click is OK but it's noisy and I'm getting looks when I take pictures inside. Can I silence it?

Some cameras have a "silent" mode, but I don't think the T2i is one of them. But any DSLR should be quieter in live view than in normal viewfinder mode, since LV subtrscts out the mirror flap. And the T2i does have LV; I know because we've used it on my wife's T2i.

The "click" you hear is mostly the sound of the reflex mirror swinging up and down as you shoot.  The cameras with "silent" mode (it's not really silent... but it's significantly quieter) swing the mirror at a slower speed so it's not as noisy.

If you flip to "live view" mode, the mirror will swing up (so you hear one click) and will stay up.   It wont be noisey because each shot wont require a mirror slap -- but it'll draw more power.
