70D Not writing photos to SD Card

CliffW

I have a 70D that I recently took on a trip. I went through the steps to format an existing SD card before the trip. It did not erase the photos on that card as I expected it to do. There was plenty of space yet on that card so I decided to leave it in the camera. I took photos, the photos would appear on the LCD screen, the photo numbering continued as expected, all seemed very normal, no error messages, nothing out of the ordinary. 140 pictures taken.

I tried to move the photos to my PC. Not easy on a Windows 11 system, but I put the card in a reader and got it done. The photos from my trip are not there. The photos in the card stop at the point of that formatting effort prior to my trip.

What did I do? Is there any chance the missing 140 photos are somewhere on that SD card?

CliffW,

Put your card back in the computer and look at your Windows Explorer.

Does your card show up as a drive? Click on that and go through the folders, one by one. If your pictures are there, they will show up and you can do a copy and paste to your hard drive.

If they don't show up in any of the folders, I don't think they were saved to the card. You might want to think about getting new card and formatting that one in the camera.

If a format did not erase the existing images, there is something really wrong.  Did you low-level format?

I do not believe I did the low level format option. Yesterday I went through the steps to add a folder to the card, it showed the new folder(101), I took a photo and it appeared in the folder. I removed the card from the camera, plugged it into my PC and windows Explorer showed the card, the previous folders DCIM, 100Canon, but not the new folder. I think I've proved that SD card to be bad. My trip photos were not written to the card.
