70D Mode Dial Differences

Why are the mode dials different on some 70D models/ Some have lesser modes on them, like some have a motordrive and a mountain symbol and some do not.

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which Canon camera model you're using.  In the subject line, you refer to the EOS 70D but in the body of your message, you refer to the EOS 7D, a very different model.  Please let us know which one you're asking about.

70d. My mistake

I think the different symbols you are describing are automatic shooting modes.  The mountain symbol could be a landscape mode. Other modes could be portrait, sports, or macro.

More advanced models may have all these automatic modes combined into one mode dial setting.  They can add new modes such as C1, C2, or C3.

Can you post a screenshot of the two different camera tops and nameplates? I don't know why a digital camera would have a motordrive icon.

Here is what the Canon instruction manual says the mode dial looks like.
