6d won't adjust aperture in photo mode

Both my 6d and 6d mark II will not adjust the iris in photo mode using the canon EF lenses or L lenses.
I have tried both aperture lock and factory reset. I can adjust the iris in video mode but not photo.

The aperture (iris) is only stopped down (adjusted) when the photo is taken.
Select a long shutter speed (like 2 seconds) and then watch the aperture as you take the photo.
The Depth Of Field preview button will also momentarily stop down the aperture. Select a small aperture like f/16 and then press the button to see the aperture stop down.

Most of the “photo modes” do not allow you to adjust aperture. It is automatically set by the camera.
