Hello to all Shutter Nutters,

I updated my FR24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens today and as always, it was a stroll in the park, with no hassles at all.

So I'm now reminding all RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens owners, that have not yet updated the firmware on your lense to the new Firmware Update Version 2.0.7 - File Name rf241054-v207,win,zip, do so now.  You'll be better for it.

Cheers,
Joe

I own the F/4-7.1 version of this lens (so it's not applicable), but I'm glad you posted this.  It's a good reminder for me to get on the Canon web site and check for updates on all of my lenses.  I'm good about keeping bodies updated, but I seem to fall behind on the lenses at times.  Thanks for the reminder, Joe!

I am trying to update my firmware from 2.0.4 using my eos r6 mark 2. I keep getting “card containing a firmware is required" -
i made sure to follow all steps. downloaded the windows version. put the 001207.afu file in the root folder of an sd card. switched the camera to P mode,  and select  firmware update -> lens
my r6 mark 2 is firmware 1.6.
No luck upgrading.. Please help

Hi svittala,

The first thing I do is to format the SD card while in the camera.  I then take the SD card out of the camera and place it in my laptop's SD card holder.  I then download the firmware (for windows) onto my laptop and when the download window shows up on the screen I click on the Download icon.  Then I look in my windows "Downloads" file and look for the win.zip folder with the new firmware.  I open the zip folder and  move the new firmware to the SD card.  Move only the firmware file.  Take the SD card and put it in your camera. Turn on your R6 Mark 2, go to the menu and click on "Firmware".  Choose camera firmware update and click your set button to start your download. 😎

Let me know how it goes 😌

Cheers,
Joe

Greetings,

How many cards do you have in the camera when you are trying to update?  If 2, please remove one.  Ensure your card is full size SD and not a micro SD with adapter.  Put the card into slot 1 which is the slot closest to the back of the camera. Then follow my colleague's instructions.

This lens update file from Canon 001207.afu has issues as I tried six different SD cards of different manufacturers low level formatted  in the camera and got  the same message  during the update "Memory Card is Required  to Update". I tried this Canon EOS R as well as with Canon EOR5M2 and received the same message. The joke is if I select update the camera firmware (with loaded .FIR file on SD cards) both cameras have no issues recognizing the SD cards. So, I am sure the SD card is not the problem, but this is a Canon bug of the camera or the lens upgrade of not seeing the .AFU file.  I downloaded the update file from Canon update site and tried both Mac OSx downloded version as well as the window .ZIP version and they both have the same issue. My EOS R has firmware camera firmware version 1.8 and lens version firmware 2.0.4. I have version 1.2.0 of camera firmware on the r5M2.

Greetings,

Suggest you delete the previous download and try re-downloading the firmware.  Unzip again, delete the .afu from the card and copy the freshly downloaded .afu.  Then retry the update.

I have this lens, but I'm having trouble updating the firmware via my Canon EOS R5 C. I just updated the camera firmware to 1.1.2.1, and when I go back to update the lens firmware, I'm not seeing an option to select a lens under the firmware menu setting. Pressing SET jumps to the following message: 'SD card containing firmware is required to update'. There is never an option to view current lens firmware nor update it.

- Lens firmware (001207.afu) is on a blank SD card
- Camera is in Photo mode
- I've tried the following shooting modes (M, P, Av)
- Auto-focus and other settings working fine, so my camera sees the lens.

I attached my RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM lens and couldn't see the lens firmware under that menu either.

Any ideas? Could it be a problem with the R5 C or the latest firmware update?
Thanks for your help.
