6D stopped tethering mid shoot

MommaKarenF

Use tether tools cable and 6D tethering into Lightroom Classic for my portrait photography. Was in the middle of a shoot when something (?) happened. The current version of Lightroom opened up and my tether worked no longer. I quit out of it, tried what I know, but had to finish the shoot without it working, lightroom just wasn't detecting it.

I was testing it today, still no go.

So I:

-uninstalled the current version of Lightroom

-restarted my imac

No go.

-tested the cable and lightroom with my T3i.

That camera was detected immedietly, and the tethering worked perfectly.

No, my EOS utility is not on.

No, I do not have wifi on.

Can anyone tell me why my 6D could have stopped working like that? Is there a way that it could have gotten fried or something? Any suggestions so appreciated. I would like to use my 6D for the shoot in the morning and not my T3i, if possible. Thanks.

Make sure the camera is in USB mode, not Wi-Fi mode, too.

Thank you, yes wifi off.

It is probably good to turn off wi-fi but I doubt it was or is the problem since you were using USB. It is always best to turn off things that you don't need.

When you hook up the 6D to your computer does the computer find it?  Say, in File Explorer?  I am guessing Windows?  WIndows 10 did a upgrade recently and lots of stuff stopped working. If that is the cause, and since we have virtually eliminated LR, it could be. It will not be fixable or useable until Adobe or MS figures out something.

However, if you are using a Mac, who knows if the OS is the problem. Mac's are so prone to OS problems, it gives me a headache.

If it does not connect to the EOS Utility, you may need to manually restart it the first go around.  Also, the PC may need to download a driver, so make sure you have an active internet connection.

My PC and network is pretty fast, but it still took about half a minute for Windows to find my cameras after any Windows update.  One “annoying” security feature of Windows 10 is that it will quietly delete stuff that was not installed from the Windows Store, and not tell you about it.  This is why you need to download new drivers after an update.

I'm totally Mac based.
I did not try it with the EOS utility. I think I may do that.

I did try it with the trial version of of the Smart Shooter, the tethering app that Tether tools uses to test the cables. My t3i showed up immedietly, my 6D, "no camera found" in that application.

I'll see if utilities finds it. I am doubtful, as at this point, I think something happened to the port where you insert the cable. Frustrating, as NOTHING happened to have it happen.

Nope.

EOS doesn't see it either.

Off to the repair shop on Monday to see what's up.

I am afraid that is where it belongs but I urge you to contact Canon 1 (800) 652-2666.  Don't trust non-Canon repair shops.

Are you using a USB port expander?  The only application most of the forum participants are familiar with is the EOS Utility.

There was not an OS upgrade? Mac OS upgrades are hit and miss as to whether stuff will still work properly.
