5D Mark IV Image corruption issues

C1onerocky

I own a canon 5d mark IV, if I leave it sit without using it for any amount of time over a month.  The images become corrupted, a bit about the camera it is the the Japanese version, I haven't been able to update the firmware.  I've tried different cards, and nothing seems to remedy the issue.  Has anyone had problems like this?

Have you tried downloading firmware update from Canon Japan support site?

Are you saying images look good on camera at one time and then a month later they change and look bad on camera?

I tried multiple cards but I didn't dedicate any of them just to the camera... Like one came from my PC, one was an old Nintendo switch card.  I haven't used anything but micro SDs with the adapter.  I was thinking of trying a compact flash card though.  I finally got the firmware update software just need to do it.

Never use microSD cards in an adapter. Only full size SD cards. Many stories here and elsewhere about corruption of images.

I think I see one problem.  Micro-SD cards with adapters are notoriously unreliable.  Sharing or swapping cards between devices is a recipe for lost data.

There is a single version of firmware for EOS cameras regardless of where the camera was original sold. So you can install the firmware from a Canon company website in Europe on a camera purchased from China. You can also download the firmware from Canon USA site and install on a camera originally destined for the Japanese market.

As others have said, use full-size SD cards or a CompactFlash card to avoid corrupt images and failing firmware updates. Also make sure that you format the card in the camera before you try to copy the firmware file (the one with the .FIR extension) to the root folder on the card.

The problem is right there. The use of Micro SD Cards in an adapter which isn't designed for use in the camera. If it was designed for it. It would take it directly without an adapter. Also stay away from any type of adapter that adapts CF to SD. Use the correct memory cards for each slot. Stay away from extra large capacity memory cards such as 128GB or 256GB memory cards. I always use multiple smaller 32GB or 64GB in my EOS 5D Mark IV and never have any memory card related issues.
