Thoughts on DPP Version 4.21.11.0

Today I downloaded DPP Version 4.21.11.0 Release date: 17 February 2026 and experimented. Release notes for this version say:

■Changes for Digital Photo Professional 4.21.11 for macOS :
- Fixed issues with some file operations.

While I did not do a side by side comparison with an older version, these are some of my subjective impressions of the new version.

When editing in HDR-PQ mode and saving a 16 bit TIFF and JPG files, the files seem to contain a useful ICC color profile that I did not remember being there before. The images seem to me to look much better than with the older version when displayed by software that uses the ICC profile. DPP seems to me to scale colors to 8 bit for the JPG in a manner that avoids the clipping in the red channel that a photo of a Cardinal bird in sunlight has when editing in sRGB mode.

Gimp free software still complains: "RGB v1.31 (Canon): icc profile length inconsistency", but seems to display the colors correctly while Chrome web browser does not.

The first image below was downscaled from 16 bit TIFF saved from DPP and a border with text was added. Then it was compressed using cjpegli to create this JPEG.

The next image created by loading the 16 bit TIFF file into gimp and exporting as JPEG with quality set to 80. The resolution was not reduced from my 4800x3200 crop in DPP. Gimp on my Debian Linux computer uses jpegli instead of the older libjpeg.

The next image created by loading the 16 bit TIFF file saved from DPP without an ICC color into gimp and exporting as JPEG with quality set to 85. The resolution was not reduced from my 4800x3200 crop in DPP. Gimp on my Debian Linux computer uses jpegli instead of the older libjpeg. There was no warning message from Gimp about the ICC profile.
