EOS Utility 3 - selecting files to download from camera

Hi,

I'm having some issues with the Transferring Images interface in EOS Utility 3 - Select and download (viewer window).

My issues come from the date selector (red circle) in the interface: the shooting dates are sorted in a weird order.

Let's say I have pictures in camera from following dates:

  • 19.01.2025
  • 22.01.2025
  • 31.01.2025
  • 13.02.2025
  • 20.02.2025
  • 11.01.2026
  • 19.01.2026
  • 21.02.2026
  • 22.02.2026

The date selector shows them in the following order:

  • 11.01.2026
  • 13.02.2025
  • 19.01.2025
  • 19.01.2026
  • 20.02.2025
  • 21.02.2026
  • 22.01.2025
  • 22.02.2026
  • 31.01.2025

My date settings are dd.mm.yyyy

Can you point me to some program settings to keep the order chronological in the date selector ?

Some engineer decided to primarily sort by the first element in the date format, secondarily sort by the second, etc. That makes no sense whatsoever. Definitely file a bug against that software.

As a workaround, use a "yyyy mm dd" format. If the above faulty logic is applied no matter the format, this will at least put things in chronological order.

You need to go into the Settings menu.  You can set it to create folders based on date the photos were captured.

I cannot remember if it is called settings or preferences. You can download the manual from product page for your camera.

My question is about something else. Folder creation is not the issue.

“ it’s a solution to your apparent issue.  As Ricky noted above, you can reconfigure the download to sort the files into dated folders.

The best practice is to not use the camera as a storage device.  Download everything.  Then delete the photos you don’t want.
