Tokina EF Lens Compatibility with EOS R6 Mark II

I am planning to buy this camera but would like to know if it's compatible with the Tokina atx-i 100mm f/2.8 FF Macro Lens for Canon EF that I already own. I know some non-Canon EF lenses won't work with the new mirrorless cameras. Does anyone know about this particular lens? Overall, I like the lens - it suits my hobbyist needs. Thank you!

Yes that's what I'm hoping. I may even go ahead and buy both the camera and the lens at the same time if I can find that deal and sell the Tokina. Now that I have a bit of experience, there are a few things I don't like about the Tokina...

I can't speak for the Tokina lens, and I am not certain by what you mean as "working".  I own the R6Mkii, have a Canon EF lens adapter, and every EF lens I own (and borrowed) has worked on this, and on my old Canon RP.  

In addition, I am a film shooter, and own a few dozen old film lenses.  With the proper mount (for example a $10 M42 to EF adapter) I can mount these to the R6Mkii and they all work - but with manual settings.  I set the aperture on the lens, I adjust the focus.  Nothing automatic about them, but they "work" exceptionally well.

Thank you. What I meant by "working" is whether it would still autofocus if I wanted it to. And it does. I bought the R6m2 with the EF mount adapter about a month ago and immediately tested the Tokina. Very glad I don't have to buy another macro lens!

Just seeing this thread.  Had purchased the tokina Macro 100 F 2.8D a while back and have now been using the R6 and R6 II.  Have the canon adapter so thought would try the lens on the new mirrorless. Turned camera on after attaching the lens with the mount and it just started the lens going in and out moving the glass back and forth like trying to find focus.  Had to turn the camera off to make it stop.  Is it the lens not working with the R6 or am I doing something wrong with the initial settings?  Appreciate the help.  Thanks

I have tried to like Tokina lenses over the years but it always seems like SIgma and Tamron always have better options. So, personally I would not recommend you use any Tokina EF lens on your R series camera. You need to stick with Canon RF lenses.

However, all that said, I did find one Tok I really love and I use it a lot. The Tokina AF 16-28mm f/2.8 at-X PRO FX Lens. I am not sure Tokina still makes it but you can find them on the used market. And I use it on an EF camera not an R series.

Actually I was not aware that Tokina still made lenses. I am sure they don't sell or even make many.

This is the one I own.  On my 5D Mark III it works fine but wish I would have purchased the canon instead.  Just having this issue when I put it on my R6.

I also have a Tamron macro from way back that works fine.  Just very big.

 All lenses can and will eventually fail and a Tokina lens is not known to be a long distance runner.

Ebiggs1 really summed things up.  If 100 mm macro is important to you, it's time for an RF lens.  Adapting EF lenses to mirrorless can work.  It gets more tricky when the lenses are 3rd party  (As you've discovered).  Performance quirks (AF speed, subject tracking, inability to achieve maximum FPS are examples), slower communication standards, etc.  

You may want to check with Tokina directly and see if there is a firmware update option.  I believe they require that you send the lens in.  I also don't follow Tokina too closely.  If it's not a lens you want to part with, you can relegate it to your 5DmkIII.

I do own the RF100 macro. I purchased it refurb from Canon.  Although I only use it a few times a year, I've been very pleased every time I've taken it out.  It goes on sale quite frequently.
