Telephoto Lens Recommendation for EOS Rebel XSi

Oldirish

My grandson has a Rebel EOS XSi that belonged to his aunt. He is a beginner and loves aviation photography, ie, air shows, etc. I want to get a telephoto lens for him for Xmas, but am at a loss at what to buy that is appropriate for the camera and his interest. Also, I would prefer not to break the bank, so I have been looking at refurbished lenses.  Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think they are pretty close, the rest comes down to skill.

The mark of good photographer is less what they hold in their hand, it's more what they hold in their head;

Cut to the chase one of the 150-600mm super zooms is the best choice. Actually considering performance and cost there is no other choice. The Tamron G2, latest model, is slightly better, IMHO, that the Sigam C. Bottom line you need to be a pixel peeper to tell the difference. So, your choice! Eithe of these will work an any Rebel.

A word of warning either one of the 150-600mm super zooms is likely to create an out of control passion for photography which can become very costly. I've seen it happen on numerous times. A newer model camera will probably happen ....soon.... also!  😁
